403(b)

403(b) Plans are a version of a 401(k) plan that is only available to registered non-profit businesses

Cash Balance/Defined Benefit

Similar to a traditional "pension" plan, a cash balance defined contribution or defined benefit plan is an additional tax shelter for highly compensated employees above and beyond the 401(k) plan

Multiple Employer Plan

A multiple employer plan (MEP or MEAP) is a group of 401(k) plans that are related and managed together but are all tested separately and have separate 5500 filings and/or audits.

457(b)

Also known as a "top-hat" for a 403(b) plan, a 457(b) defers compensation for specific highly-compensated employees in a 403(b) non-profit plan

Solo-K

A solo-401(k), also known as a "solo-k" is a 401(k) for an owner-only business. These are traditionally applied when a business owner wants a tax shelter larger than is available with an IRA.

Pooled Employer Plan

A pooled employer plan also known as a PEP is a group of 401(k) plans that are combined into a single plan that is all audited together and files a single 5500 as a group.
